Description
‘It was an enriching experience. I’ve shared and I’ve learned a lot’
Luis Ribas, Logistics Director, PT Pro (Portugal Telecom)
The hugely successful 10th Annual European Supply Chain & Logistics Summit passed last week in a flurry of thought leadership, information exchange, learning and networking.
SCL Europe 2008 once again proved itself as the ‘must attend’ event in the calendar at which to gain unparalleled insight into the current issues and best practices that are shaping supply chain and logistics today.
A record number of end user delegates gathered at the Swissôtel Dusseldorf for 3 days of keynote sessions, panel discussions and vendor-led interactive workshops. Our exclusive networking model of pre-arranged, private one-to-one meetings proved once again to be a winning formula, guaranteeing that delegates and sponsors met only with those they had expressed an interest in meeting. This ensured that valuable networking time was spent productively, maximising the very real chance of lucrative business opportunities at the event.
As ever SCL Europe attracted a speaking panel of world class industry experts to address the real issues concerning business practice today. They shared their wealth of knowledge and experience in some of the most innovative and informative workshops and presentations ever seen at the summit:
Kevin O’ Marah, Chief Strategy Officer, AMR Research brought his thought leadership to the question of what constitutes a truly “world class” supply chain in today’s competitive environment, emphasising the importance of risk management and collaboration.
Jacques Dysli, Head of Biotech Supply Chain, Merck Serono delivered a key insight into his Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) approach, detailing how he managed to integrate two distinct paths following the merger between Merck and Serono.
Duncan Lowe, Supply Strategy Director, PepsiCo International offered a truly different perspective on collaboration, contending how collaboration is not necessarily a permanent long-term strategy, but rather a more short-term “series of liaisons”.

Another great triumph at SCL Europe was the inaugural Supply Chain Distinction Award ceremony, hosted by Professor Richard Wilding of The Cranfield School of Management, and was a glamorous evening that recognised leading enterprises for their successes over the past twelve months in driving logistical excellence and delivering supply chain innovation from concept to contract. Our judging panel, which included Kevin O’Marah - Chief Strategy Officer, AMR Research, Maurice Lee - Value Chain and Logistics Director, Procter and Gamble and Paul Stuart - Head of Global Clinical Supply at Pfizer had the unenviable task of deciding who from over 80 entrants were truly ‘best in class’. Celebrations continued in the bar at the Swissôtel until the small hours of the morning setting a very high standard for the 2009 event.
‘A good blend of thought leadership from academia and industry’
Jo Sands, Principle Global Supply Chain, Odgens Interim
