Description
Written by Catalyst Consulting Director, John Morgan, co-author of SPC in the Office, this book integrates the key concepts, tools and techniques of Lean Thinking and Six Sigma.
Drawing on the experience of the wider Catalyst team, this practical guide and roadmap for the improvement of existing processes lays the foundations to achieve Six Sigma performance. The Improvement Journey follows Catalyst's tried and tested Eight Step Improvement Process, mapped against the DMAIC methodology. At the beginning of each step, you will find a description, ‘What is this Step All About?’ and a summary of ‘The Key Outputs from this Step’. The supporting tool set includes a selection of Lean Thinking tools, as well as the more traditional Six Sigma techniques.
Book Reviews
John Morgan's new book is a bright and clear description of how to implement a business improvement project using Six Sigma and Lean techniques and includes descriptions of a huge range of useful tools. Six Sigma and Lean are two schools within the quality domain that are used within many global organisations. They are often cloaked in mystery and jargon and so it is good to see this new book from John Morgan that seeks to make many of the methods and tools in these systems easier to understand and use.
"The good use of colour and plentiful diagrams makes it immediately attractive, and this principle of readability is borne out in practice as the book includes many examples and diagrams. Many books are dull and difficult. Morgan's book, by contrast, is alive and attractive". - David Straker
"Anyone with an interest in this subject should buy a copy of The Lean Six Sigma Improvement Journey by John Morgan. The tone is light-hearted, yet no stone is left unturned in getting the message across. Each tool (of which there are many) is covered in detail with the aid of colour coded illustrations. The design, layout, and comprehensive index make this book ideal for reference and study. Invaluable". - Adrian Fowler
"This is now my favourite improvement book! I wish it had been available earlier! I feel more attuned to it than many others and it is also significantly more accessible. I like the combination of Lean and Six Sigma within a single book. 'Improve' is my favourite step (in this book)! So often improve is diminished in importance, after a rigorous measure/analyse, that the improvement decisions seen almost random. Although I fully accept that this book does not replace formal training, it would be possible for most people to pick up additional tools from the book and to feel confident in using them. Finally, the book also includes a touch of humour which appeals to me." - Estelle Clarke, Group Business Assurance Director, Lloyd's Register
"The Lean Six Sigma Improvement Journey is probably the best Lean Six Sigma book out there if you want to learn and then apply the tools and techniques yourself, and believe me, I have purchased many 'teach yourself' Six Sigma books and always find myself reverting back to this book for guidance!" - Paul Coulton, BT Global
